A rare Porsche was held hostage by a mechanic for over a decade, leading to a lawsuit that resulted in a significant payout. This extraordinary case involved a researcher who entrusted her prized 1997 Porsche 911 Targa to a mechanic for repairs. However, the mechanic, instead of fulfilling his duties, held the car captive for 11 years.

When the owner finally pressed for its return, the mechanic stripped the vehicle of its valuable components, including the engine, transmission, and interior, and abandoned the stripped shell outside her home.

The owner subsequently took legal action, arguing that the mechanic’s actions constituted a breach of contract and a violation of her property rights. The court agreed, finding that the mechanic’s behavior was egregious and unjustified. As a result, the owner was awarded substantial compensation, which included damages for the loss of the vehicle, the cost of repairs, and emotional distress.

The incident highlights the potential for unethical behavior within the automotive industry and underscores the importance of consumer protection. It serves as a cautionary tale for car owners who entrust their vehicles to mechanics, reminding them to exercise due diligence and carefully consider their choices.

Moreover, the case demonstrates the power of legal action in holding individuals accountable for their wrongdoing and ensuring justice is served. A researcher’s dream of owning a Porsche turned into a decade-long nightmare when she entrusted her beloved car to a mechanic who proved to be both incompetent and abusive.

After purchasing the car in 2008, the owner experienced repeated delays and excuses from the mechanic, who promised to repair the vehicle but never delivered it. Despite the owner’s patience and understanding, the mechanic’s behavior escalated into verbal aggression, threats, and even physical damage to the car.

The mechanic’s incompetence was evident from the beginning. Despite numerous promises to complete the repairs, he consistently failed to deliver on his commitments. His excuses ranged from personal illness to an 11 month prison stint for conspiracy to commit assault. The owner’s patience eventually wore thin as she realized that the mechanic was not only incompetent but also unreliable.

In addition to his incompetence, the mechanic also exhibited abusive behavior towards the owner. He became increasingly aggressive as the years went by, resorting to verbal abuse and threats. When the owner finally decided to sue him, he retaliated by calling her an “attention seeker” and demanding additional payment for “storage” fees.

He even went so far as to claim ownership of the car, stating that it was his because she had not paid what she owed him. The owner’s ordeal was further compounded by the mechanic’s actions. He stripped the car of its engine, gearbox, and other crucial parts before dropping it outside her home in 2022. This act of vandalism not only caused additional financial damage but also inflicted emotional pain on the owner.

The owner’s lawsuit against the mechanic was ultimately successful. The judge ruled in her favor, awarding her significant damages for breach of contract and conversion. The judge recognized that the Porsche had a particular value to the owner, not only as a prized possession but also as a symbol of her success.

The mechanic’s actions were a clear violation of his professional duties. His incompetence and abuse caused the owner immense suffering and financial loss. This case serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of choosing reputable mechanics and the potential consequences of entrusting valuable possessions to those who are not trustworthy.
