The Dodge Charger, a muscle car icon, was introduced in 1966, just as Chrysler revealed its legendary 426 cubic inch HEMI engine. Over the years, the Charger underwent two redesigns before the Malaise Era, but its 1971 iteration stands out as the final model to feature high compression big block V8 engines.

Despite its popularity, with over 70,000 units sold in 1971, the Charger R/T is a relatively rare variant. Only 3,118 R/Ts were produced that year, accounting for just 4% of total production. The majority of 1971 R/Ts were equipped with the base four barrel 440 cubic-inch V8 engine, which produced 370 horsepower.

However, a limited number of R/Ts were fitted with the more powerful 440 Six-Pack engine (385 horsepower) or the legendary 426 HEMI engine (425 horsepower). The HEMI, in particular, is extremely rare, with only 63 US-spec Chargers featuring it. The six-barrel 440 V8 was also a less common option, selected by 178 customers.

As a result, the 1971 Charger R/T, especially those equipped with the HEMI or Six-Pack engines, is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today. A pristine 1971 Dodge Charger R/T V-code, a true automotive collectible, is set to hit the auction block in October. This iconic muscle car, with its numbers matching drivetrain and a single owner history, offers a unique opportunity for enthusiasts.

The Charger’s striking black top and stripes contrast beautifully against its bright white exterior, creating a timeless and elegant appearance. Its powerful 440 Six-Pack V8 engine and Torqueflite automatic transmission deliver exhilarating performance.

This particular Charger is one of only 98 units produced in 1971, making it a highly sought after example. The interior features brown inserts and faux wood trim, adding a touch of luxury to its classic design. With its complete documentation and registry listing, this Charger is a well-documented and authentic vehicle.

While the auction house hasn’t disclosed a price estimate, 1971 Charger R/Ts typically command six figure sums, and this particular vehicle could potentially fetch up to $200,000. Given its exceptional condition, rarity, and historical significance, this Charger is expected to attract significant interest from collectors and enthusiasts alike.
