The “coupe SUV” concept gained traction in the luxury crossover segment during the 2000s, especially within the electric vehicle (EV) market. Defined by a sloping roofline, this design improves aerodynamics and enhances vehicle range. Earlier in 2023, Audi introduced the Q6 e-tron, a compact electric crossover.

Following this launch, the company announced the upcoming Q6 e-tron Sportback, scheduled to arrive in the United States in 2024. This new model complements Audi’s existing lineup, which includes fastback versions of the Q4 e-tron and Q8 e-tron.

In terms of design, the Q6 e-tron Sportback features notable changes primarily above the shoulder line. The roofline is lowered by 1.4 inches and curves downward towards the rear, where a subtle lip spoiler houses the rear brake light.

While the rear section maintains the same design as the standard Q6 e-tron—with a full-width light bar and a robust bumper—the interior mirrors that of the standard model but has slightly less cargo space. Key technology features include an 11.9-inch digital gauge cluster, a central 14.5-inch touchscreen, and an optional 10.9-inch screen for front passengers.

The performance attributes of the Q6 e-tron Sportback align closely with those of the standard model, utilizing Volkswagen Group’s new PPE architecture, which is also featured in the Porsche Macan EV.

Both models are equipped with a 94.4-kWh battery, with the Sportback expected to deliver a similar EPA range of around 300 miles. Additionally, the vehicle incorporates an 800-volt electrical system that enables DC fast charging at rates of up to 270 kW, allowing the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 21 minutes.

In contrast to the standard Q6 e-tron, which offers a single-motor, rear-drive configuration, the Sportback will come exclusively with an all-wheel-drive setup. Its dual-motor powertrain generates up to 456 horsepower, allowing it to reach a top speed of 130 mph.

Audi also plans to introduce a more powerful SQ6 e-tron Sportback variant, which will feature two electric motors producing 509 horsepower and achieving a higher top speed of 143 mph. Detailed performance metrics for both models are expected to be released closer to their launch date.

Sales of the Q6 and SQ6 e-tron Sportback are anticipated to begin in the United States in the spring or summer of 2024. These models are likely to carry a slightly higher price point than their conventional counterparts, with the 2025 Q6 e-tron starting at $65,095 and the SQ6 e-tron beginning at $74,195. This pricing approach emphasizes Audi’s commitment to maintaining a premium presence in the competitive electric vehicle segment.
