Shaw Industries Group is investing about $90 million in a Ringgold plant to expand its domestic resilient flooring manufacturing, the company said Thursday.

The Dalton-based company is growing capacity at its plant in Ringgold, which makes stone polymer composite and luxury vinyl tile resilient flooring. The investment will more than double the facility’s resilient flooring production capacity by 2026, the company said in a statement.

David Morgan, executive vice president of operations at Shaw, said the investment allows the company to better serve customers with added product features which are made domestically. He said in a statement that expanding the plant will ensure the company continues to deliver the quality and service that customers expect.

Lynn Kier, Shaw’s communications director, said in an email the factory employs about 400 workers. No additional employees are planned under the new investment, Kier said.

According to the company, the investment will not only increase plant capacity but provide customers with enhanced product specifications, such as smaller production runs, new emboss textures, added dimensional stability for loose lay applications and more product sizes.

The Ringgold plant has been part of Shaw’s strategic growth, helping to position the company as a leader in high-performance resilient flooring, the statement said.

Since 2019, Shaw has invested more than $160 million in the facility, excluding the new announcement, according to the company.

In 2014, Shaw announced it would exit the area rug business and bolster its domestic presence in the luxury vinyl tile market.

The company retooled the Ringgold rug factory and reopened it as a new vinyl plant, using updated technology.

In 2020, Shaw unveiled plans to spend $20 million to expand production of luxury vinyl tile flooring in the Ringgold plant.

Also in 2020, flooring company Engineered Floors revealed plans to revamp a 1.2 million-square-foot plant in Dalton where it planned to launch production of luxury vinyl tile.

In addition, Huali Floors, which makes luxury vinyl tile, stone plastic composite, and wood plastic composite flooring, announced in 2020 it would set up its U.S. headquarters and a manufacturing facility in Murray County, Georiga, and create at least 315 jobs.
