Porsche has urgently recalled 1,000 of its luxury vehicles due to a serious safety risk, warning owners not to drive their cars until the issue is resolved. The recall was prompted by a defect in the central locking nuts on the wheels, which can become defective. If these nuts break, they fail to properly secure the wheel to the car’s frame, increasing the risk of the wheel detaching while driving, especially at high speeds. This poses a significant safety hazard, as the loss of a wheel can result in loss of control, accidents, and potential injury.

The recall affects around 10,000 cars globally, with the Porsche 718 (982), 911 (992), and Panamera (G3) models being the most prominently impacted. These cars, some of which are valued at up to £200,000, were manufactured between September 1 of the previous year and October 23 of this year. However, not all vehicles produced in this time frame are affected by the issue. Porsche is carefully identifying which cars require repairs and taking the necessary steps to fix the defect.

The company has made it clear that the safety of its customers is its top priority. In order to prevent accidents, Porsche has urged owners to immediately cease using their affected vehicles. To resolve the issue, the central screw connections on these cars must be inspected and replaced if necessary. Currently, Porsche is working to finalize the availability of the required parts to carry out these repairs.

The safety concern stems from the possibility that the defective central locking nuts could cause the wheel attachment to loosen, leading to the wheel potentially detaching while the vehicle is in motion. This defect significantly raises the risk of vehicle control being lost, which could cause serious accidents and property damage. As a result, Porsche has emphasized the urgency of the situation, asking affected owners not to drive their cars until the problem is fixed.

Porsche is working diligently to address the issue as quickly as possible. While the cars affected by the recall represent a high-end market segment, with some models costing over £100,000, the company’s immediate focus remains on resolving the safety concerns. Porsche is committed to ensuring the safe operation of its vehicles, prioritizing the well-being of drivers, passengers, and other road users.
