Jeff Bezos is making headlines again, but this time it’s not about Amazon or space travel – it’s about his private jet collection. The billionaire recently upgraded his fleet with the Gulfstream G700, a cutting-edge $80 million jet that’s being called the most advanced private jet on the market. And now, he’s off-loading one of his older jets, a Gulfstream G650ER, for a cool $38,950,000.

This isn’t just any plane. Bezos’ 2015 G650ER, registered as N271DV, has been kept in pristine condition, earning him a reputation for maintaining his aircraft to the highest standards. The jet, listed on the aviation marketplace Controller, is a more “affordable” option compared to a new G650ER, which sells for around $65 million. It’s clear Bezos is offering a significant discount for anyone looking to fly in style.
Aviation expert Preston Holland shared a closer look at the plane’s interior and it’s everything you’d expect from a billionaire’s private jet – though perhaps more practical than flashy. At the front, there’s a crew rest area for long-haul flights, followed by a galley designed for meal prep and storage. The main seating area features four chairs, one of which was likely Bezos’ preferred spot for making big decisions.
While the jet is functional and well-designed, Holland pointed out that the carpet is a bit underwhelming. “I think it would be the first thing I would change,” he quipped. Still, the plane can comfortably accommodate up to 14 passengers and offers meeting rooms, lavatories and plenty of space to stretch out on long flights.
According to Business Insider, Bezos’ collection of airplanes is valued at over $200 million. It consists of the Gulfstream G700, the newest model, a smaller Pilatus PC-24 and another G650ER. The G700 is a favorite among billionaires since it is opulent and among the quickest and most sophisticated private aircraft on the market.
Bezos reportedly took delivery of the G700 in July and the jet has been busy since. In the first 39 days, JetSpy data shows it made 28 flights and emitted as much carbon dioxide as the average American does in 17 years. According to estimates, his entire fleet has logged about 850 flight hours in the first eight or so months of 2024, resulting in roughly $2.3 million in fuel costs and 3,600 tons of carbon emissions.
It’s unclear why Bezos is selling the G650ER, but this is the oldest aircraft in his collection. At almost 10 years old, it may perhaps be time for an upgrade. Or maybe Bezos no longer feels the need for two G650ERs now that he has the G700 in his arsenal.
Bezos and other celebrities have faced growing criticism for the environmental impact of private jets. Oxfam’s report shows that two of Bezos’ jets alone emitted as much carbon as an average Amazon employee would over 207 years. Despite this, private jets remain a hallmark of billionaire lifestyles, with their convenience and luxury often outweighing public backlash.
