    SUKKUR:

The Pakistan government generated funds by trading carbon credits in the international market, to improve a major irrigation project in Sindh, President Asif Ali Zardari said, according to a press release issued on Saturday by the Press Wing of the President’s Secretariat.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Sukkur Campus of Dr Ziauddin Hospital, in Sukkur, the president vowed to continue the Bhutto family’s legacy of public service to improving the socio-economic well-being of the nation.

In his speech, the president highlighted that Rohri canal was being lined from its beginning and Rs15 billion would be spent annually in this regard. “The funds generated from the trading of carbon credits in the international market are being used for the lining of the Rohri Canal project,” he said.

Zardari termed the inauguration of a state-of-the-art hospital a transformative moment for Sukkur. He said that the facility would provide quality healthcare services to the people of Sukkur and its surrounding areas.

Zardari mentioned his personal involvement in encouraging the Ziauddin Hospital management to invest in Sukkur. He highlighted the need for such initiatives to uplift healthcare standards in underserved areas. He said that he had donated his personal land for Dr Ziauddin Hospital’s campus in Hyderabad.

Zardari highlighted the significance of the university campus, where medical students could pursue higher education. “The Government of Sindh will bear the expenses for the establishment of a university at the Ziauddin Hospital Sukkur Campus,” he announced.

The president emphasised that providing top-notch healthcare facilities to the public was the top priority and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the people of Pakistan had access to quality medical care.

President Zardari praised Dr Asim Hussain and the Ziauddin Hospital management for their efforts for establishing a facility equipped with cutting-edge technology with a team of highly-skilled professionals. “The hospital exemplifies Dr Asim Hussain and his family’s unwavering commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the people,” he said.
