Anthesis has successfully reached a major milestone in its sustainability journey with the issuance of carbon credits from its first independently developed carbon project, the Urfa Yenice Landfill Gas-to-Energy Project in Turkey. This achievement marks a significant step forward in Anthesis’ commitment to delivering high-quality carbon offsets that drive real environmental and social impact.

The project, which captures methane emissions from the Urfa landfill and converts them into renewable electricity, has now been verified under the Gold Standard, with 114,253 tCO₂ of emission reductions officially issued as carbon credits. This initiative not only prevents the release of one of the most potent greenhouse gases but also contributes to Turkey’s clean energy transition and sustainable economic growth.

About the Urfa Yenice landfill gas-to-energy project

Located in Şanlıurfa, Turkey, this waste-to-energy project tackles the dual challenge of waste management and methane emissions. By capturing and converting landfill gas into electricity, the project prevents 8,000 tonnes of methane (CH₄) annually from entering the atmosphere—equivalent to 230,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided each year. It also generates 32,400 MWh of clean energy annually, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and enhancing energy security in the region.

The project is implemented in collaboration with Can Çevre Yatırımları Enerji ve Elektrik Üretimi A.Ş., whose expertise in landfill gas management ensures efficient methane capture and energy generation. As an ICROA (International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance) member, Anthesis upholds the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and verification, ensuring that its carbon credits meet international best practices.

    Driving high-impact carbon solutions

Anthesis is at the forefront of carbon project development, ensuring that businesses and investors can access credible, high-quality carbon offsets. Our international Carbon Project Development team works across four key themes – Methane from Landfill Gas, Biochar, Regenerative Agriculture and Mangroves/Blue Carbon, Water and Sanitation – developing Anthesis projects and supporting others to develop their own projects that go beyond carbon reduction to deliver meaningful benefits for local communities, ecosystems, and economies.

Through a holistic approach, Anthesis integrates climate action with broader sustainability goals, ensuring that its projects contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This means that alongside reducing greenhouse gas emissions, each project is designed to enhance biodiversity, improve livelihoods, and create lasting environmental resilience.

We are incredibly proud to see our first carbon project reach issuance. With carbon markets playing an increasing role in global net-zero strategies, Anthesis is committed to expanding its portfolio of high-integrity carbon projects, supporting organisations to achieve meaningful carbon reductions that align with their sustainability goals and create real-world benefits for people and the planet.

    Looking ahead

As demand for credible, high-quality carbon credits continues to rise, Anthesis remains committed to scaling its carbon project development activities. By integrating climate science, community engagement, and biodiversity protection, the company is shaping a more sustainable and resilient future for both businesses and the global carbon market.
