    China Promotes Climate Talks Veteran Li Gao to Vice Minister

    China has promoted Li Gao, a veteran climate negotiator and an advocate of the country’s carbon credit program, to a vice minister at the Ecology and Environment Ministry.

    The 55-year-old’s appointment comes as China is set to expand its carbon market from the power sector to other industries, including steel, cement and aluminum. The ministry regulates nearly half of the country’s CO2 emissions via the three-year-old national carbon market.
