Varaha, an Indian company focused on developing carbon removal initiatives across Asia, has successfully raised a multi-million US dollar investment from Conductor Capital, a UK-based investment manager specializing in energy, commodities, and environmental products.

This investment will enable Varaha to scale its carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects, extend its reach to more farmers, and amplify its impact across various regions, particularly in India and Nepal.

To date, Varaha has implemented 14 technology-driven carbon projects across India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Kenya, encompassing a range of strategies such as regenerative agriculture, afforestation, biochar, and enhanced rock weathering.

The company has supported over 100,000 smallholder farmers in adopting sustainable practices, successfully removing more than two million tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the atmosphere.

Varaha was also the first developer in India to issue carbon removal credits for biochar under the Puro.Earth registry.

In a notable achievement, Varaha sold 100,000 CDR credits to Google in January 2025, marking Google’s inaugural large-scale purchase of carbon removal credits in the country.

Madhur Jain, Co-founder of Varaha, stated: “This investment from Conductor Capital is transformative for Varaha. It represents a significant endorsement of our model and the urgent need for sustainable environmental solutions.”

“It enhances the potential impact of Conductor Capital’s project investment by providing a clear pathway for scaling up operations and integrating into India’s broader carbon reduction strategies. We are excited to lead the way in creating scalable, sustainable solutions that address climate change at its core, ensuring a healthier planet for future generations.”

Marcello Romano, Chief Investment Officer of Conductor Capital, expressed his enthusiasm to be investing in Varaha and added: “Our investment reflects our commitment to backing solutions that offer substantial environmental and social benefits, and Varaha’s tech-driven platform coupled with its rigorous implementation expertise – stands out in this regard.”
