The Papua New Guinea government is now lifting a ban on it’s forest carbon credit scheme, saying there are better safeguards now in place.

For years, foreign companies were buying tracts of land in those forests until a list of scandals illegal logging forced a shutdown of the scheme.

“We did wrote public statements because could see there was no due diligence,” said Pamela Avusi from the PNG Environmental Alliance.

“That led to civil society putting pressure on Government who later implemented a moratorium on cabon credits,” he added.
